This lovely book of favorite poems and quotations is timeless and appropriate for any occasion such as "the gloom of the world is but a shadow; behind it, yet within our reach, is joy. Take joy." -Fra Giovanni

In the words of writers as diverse as William Shakespeare, Henry Thoreau, and Mother Goose, Tasha Tudor admonishes her readers to "take joy." The splendor of nature, the warmth of the human heart, and the power of dreams are all proclaimed by some of the greatest writers in the English language. And Tasha Tudor brings their words home with her delicate watercolors, many featuring her own beloved grandchildren and even herself as a child.

"There is no duty we so much underrate as the duty of being happy," Robert Louis Stevenson says. In this wise, inspirational, and touching collection of words and pictures, embodying the innocence of childhood and the simple pleasures of times past, Tasha Tudor reminds us of the joy that is all around us.

This book included many of Tasha's favorite quotations; one she would repeat often such as Ralph Waldo Emerson's "Nothing can bring you peace but yourself," and Oscar Wilde's "Life is far too important a thing to ever talk seriously about."

Tasha's forward to the book says "Joy and peace are a state of mind, easy for some to come by, difficult for others. This book pictures a few of the things that have brought, and still do bring, intense joy to me. This is not a storybook -- it has no particular beginning, no end, and definitely no message. It is merely a statement of delight, drawn from memory past and present. May it bring you as much happiness in perusing its pictures as it has given me in setting them down. The pictures are my own, the quotations are 'other men's flowers.' "
