This original Tasha Tudor pencil drawing is exquisite, showcasing Tasha’s fine technical skills. A hurricane type lantern rests on a table with a candle rising up over the lantern glass. Knowing Tasha, this table was most likely based upon an existing table, either in Tasha’s doll house or friend Rumer Godden’s who authored the 1962 book The Doll’s House that the drawing was created for and published in.

A bouquet of flowers rests upon a tablecloth. Perhaps Tasha based them on her favorite camellias. Tasha was interested in dolls for most of her life. She shared her beloved dolls and their elaborate doll world in Thistly B, The Dolls’ Christmas, A is for Annabelle, and more.

Tasha used a smooth thick cardboard-like substrate for this fine pencil drawing.  “P. 39” is handwritten in the upper left corner of the board by someone other than Tasha. Likely during the publishing process. There are what appear to be two fingerprint stains with some additional discoloration. Unlike pen and ink drawings, pencil drawings are known for longevity as the medium is quite stable and unlikely to fade.

This drawing was originally purchased at the Dutch Inn Gift Shop in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania, which was owned and run by longtime Tudor family friends Ned Hills and his sister, Charlotte Hills Brown. This piece as been in the same family since its purchase.

Recently reset within it’s original tan matte with photo corners and linen tape hinges. The original plastic wrap contains two stickers. One sticker displays a number “1750” The other is the note typical of Dutch Inn pieces with the identifying note “The Dolls’ House p. 25 Lamp & flowers a stand, pencil” and later insurance value note was added by the owner “INS $200”
